This paper develops more effective strategies in managing academic study in western educational contexts. Proficiency is enhanced in areas such as listening, reading and note taking. Learners are made aware of features of academic texts. The description and comparison of information is explored in the development of writing skills.

Students who successfully complete the paper should be able to:

  • Upper Intermediate Level

    On successful completion of this level, the learners will be able to:

    1. Demonstrate an understanding of the gist and key points in written texts on a broad range of familiar topics

    2. Construct an essay composed of four paragraphs using various tenses, linking words, and sentence structures on a broad range of familiar topics

    3. Communicate confidently in spoken interactions using basic academic vocabulary, various tenses, and sentence structures on a broad range of familiar topics

    4. Demonstrate an understanding of the gist and key points in spoken texts on a broad range of familiar topics
